FAQ

GENERAL

Are Virgin Hair Boutiquë hair extensions suitable for everyone? Hair extensions are a cosmetic procedure and should only be applied to healthy hair. Hair must be at least 12 cm or 5” in length to ensure comfortable, discreet attachments. There are some medical conditions that may leave a small minority of clients unsuitable for extensions. Suitability is discussed during a consultation – these are always free and no-obligation.

What does “keratin bond” mean? In short, the Virgin Hair Boutiquë keratin bond, used to attach an extension strand, is a polymer developed with a molecular structure that’s mimics that of human hair, resulting in a bond that behaves just like human hair. When applied correctly, there is never any damage to the client’s natural hair.

What is Remy hair? “Remy” hair is hair in which all the cuticles are running in the same direction from root to tip. All Virgin Hair Boutiquë extensions are made using only 100% virgin Remy hair. There are benefits to using Remy hair; it is easier to maintain, less likely to tangle and it blends well with the client’s natural hair.

APPLICATION

How long does application take? This depends on how many extensions you are having installed, and if you have chosen  individual strands or GL Tapes . Your stylist will advise on estimated application time at your consultation.

Do I have to get a full head of hair extensions? No. Your stylist can apply as few extensions as you need to achieve the look you desire. Hair extensions can also be applied to add volume to thinning areas, or to add length to one specific area such as bangs or sides. The possibilities are truly endless.

What length does my hair need to be for hair extensions to be applied? We recommend that hair is at least 12 cm or 5”. This allows the attachment sites to sit comfortably and be hidden.

Can I colour my hair extensions? Yes, as our hair is 100% human, it can be coloured. However, the bonds can’t be coloured. Your stylist will be able to advise you on what is possible and what results you can expect to achieve.

REMOVAL

How long do Virgin Hair Boutiquë extensions last before they must be removed? For premium bonded extensions, we recommend removal every 4 – 6  months, depending upon the type of application performed (i.e. lengthening, volumizing, etc.). For GL Tape Systems, we recommend removal every 6 – 8 weeks. Both removal timeframes are dependent upon the state/condition of the client's natural hair, their lifestyle, how well they have maintained their extensions and how quickly their hair grows.

What will my hair be like when the hair extensions are removed? Once you have had your extensions removed, your hair needs to be washed and conditioned to clean away any residue from the removal gel and bonds. If you have maintained your extensions well, there will be no damage, and you may find that your natural hair has grown more quickly than usual.

How are the hair extensions removed? Virgin Hair Boutiquë hair extensions must always be removed by one of our certified stylists. The stylist will use a specially formulated Virgin Hair Boutiquë removal gel. When applied, this gel gently breaks down the bond or softens the GL Tapes strip. For bonds, a removal tool is used alongside the gel, allowing the extension Artist to slide the bond down your own hair without damage.

MAINTANANCE

What do I need to do to look after my hair extensions? Because all Virgin Hair Boutiquë hair extensions are made from 100% human hair, your care routine will be very similar to your regular routine. You may find that you wash your hair less frequently. The bonds or tape-line must always be blow-dried immediately after washing, and the hair will need to be brushed thoroughly from root to tip twice daily. To preserve and ensure the longevity of the installation, it is also important to use the Virgin Hair Boutiquë After Care Products. Always follow the guidelines set out by your stylist and take a look at our expert aftercare tips to maximize potential wear. Your stylist will also invite you to a free maintenance check approximately 3-4 weeks after initial application.

Do I have to use special aftercare products on my hair extensions? To ensure best results we encourage Virgin Hair Boutiquë clients to always use the Virgin Hair Boutiquë Dual Active Care Products. They feature high-quality cleansing and moisturizing agents and are all sulfate and paraben-free. Kind and gentle to the hair, bond and tape line; these products are scientifically proven to extend potential wear up to 20%.

Can I swim wearing hair extensions? Yes, you can swim and exercise with hair extensions. It’s important to always tie your hair up in a ponytail or braid to avoid tangling. We do not recommend submerging hair in salt or chlorinated water. After exercising, we advise spritzing hair with our Anti-Tap Water. Through exercise and perspiration, the natural PH balance of your hair can be altered. Anti-Tap restores that natural PH balance of the hair and scalp, nourishes the hair, and is designed to protect the bonds or tape-line too!

Are Virgin Hair Boutiquë hair extensions difficult to style? Because Virgin Hair Boutiquë extensions are 100% human hair, they can be treated in just the same way as your own hair –straightened, curled, permed and even coloured. However, we do recommend using the Virgin Hair Boutiquë styling range of products to help keep your hair in tip top condition.  All chemical treatments must be done by a certified Virgin Hair Boutiquë Stylist.
